President Jerry Winges opened the meeting and welcomed our three guests: John Kendall and visiting Rotarians John de La Fontaine and Anna Cecilia from Mexico City Rotary District 4170. John outlined 4170s inspiring and uplifting work to fight kidney disease.
Paul Watermulder led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dan Conway gave an invocation focused on how, in an uncertain, rapidly changing world, America has a history of addressing difficult challenges, and we can do it again.
Fritz Brauner interviewed new member, Sandy Kaur, owner of The Nurse Next Door, located at 330 Primrose Road. Sandy discussed her desire to make a positive community impact through her career and through Rotary. For anyone who has had the chance to spend time with Sandy since she joined our gang, she’s a wonderful person and we are so happy to have her!

President Jerry and other members outlined a number of important local and broader Rotary community efforts that our chapter has contributed to: Paul Watermulder discussed the coastal cleanup event; Sheryl Young gave an overview and played a short video of the Diaper Drive to benefit needy families; BobDoerr’s District 5170 Impact Fair was a great success.
Two important upcoming events were discussed with Save the Dates: November 7 is our District 5150 Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) event at SF zoo, a celebration of The Rotary Foundation’s good work. It will be an open-house-style day of discovery and our organization's amazing community impact.
Nov 15 from 4PM to 7PM is our Top Golf fundraising event, our most important chapter fundraiser, the success of which is critical to our community impact. While there are few mandatory Rotary commitments, and this is not mandatory, it is important that all of us support our efforts here by buying tickets, getting the word out to our friends, sponsoring the event, and contributing in any way we can. It is a big job to put on an event like this, and it’s great we have such a strong chapter ready to pitch in and contribute. The event is not just for golfers! It will be a fun social gathering with food and drink.
Nimisha Melag introduced our speaker, Kelly Andersen, a local community member who has spent her career fighting fraud, currently as a Vice President at Visa. She shared an important and insightful presentation about how to avoid fraud, in particular credit card fraud. She also discussed the trends happening right now in that industry, the new scams criminals are using and how industry and law enforcement are adapting to stay one step ahead when possible. President Jerry adjourned the meeting after thanking Kelly and presenting her with a certificate noting that Burlingame Rotary is donating polio doses in her name.
