Burlingame Rotary Club
Founded in 1925

Lunch Meetings are held every Wednesday for the Rotary year 2019 - 2020.

President Cheri Carr called the meeting to order at 12:16 PM

Pledge of Allegiance was followed by the  Invocation / Thought For The Day: Giving opens the way for receiving. We gather together here today intent on doing good work. We seek to represent fairly and well, those who have given us this task. May our efforts be blessed with insight, guided by understanding and wisdom. We seek to serve with respect for all. May our personal faiths give us the strength to act honestly and well in all matters before us.

Announcements: The Golf Tournament Event on October 21, 2019, is just around the corner. It takes place at the beautiful Green Hill Country Club. We respectfully remind all of our club members. A reminder that all Club Members are asked to show their support by purchasing 1 (one) dinner ticket by going to the Burlingame rotary website. Or you can pay at the lunch meeting. Also, if you have a bottle of wine you are not drinking with a value of $60 the Golf Tournament Auction needs your support. If you don't have one a $40 check to the club will enable us to buy a great bottle of wine. Thank you in advance.

Fireside Chat: With Fritz Brauner and Joe La Mariana's home. October 1st.

Speaker:  Today's guest speaker is our own, Bob Doerr who reminded us about Rotary International's Shelter Box program. The global support from the Rotary International network is the cornerstone upon which ShelterBox is built.

In April 2000, the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard in Cornwall, England adopted ShelterBox as its millennium project. Little did they know that it would become the largest Club project in the world, responding to disasters and conflict across the globe and providing emergency shelter to over one million people. Since ShelterBox was founded, it has grown from one club’s adopted project to Rotary International’s only Project Partner in disaster relief. ShelterBox global network has been key to Rotary's  International growth. In 2012, ShelterBox became Rotary International’s first Project Partner and remains the only disaster relief charity. The sturdy green ShelterBoxes contain family-sized tents specially designed to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home.

The ShelterKits contain all of the essential tools people need to start repairing and rebuilding homes straight away. Our kits and boxes also contain the items that help transform shelter into a home-like cooking sets, solar lights and activity sets for children.

In 2018 with the support of Rotary Clubs from around the world, Shelter Box has provided shelter and supplies for 210,000 people whose lives were devastated by disaster. Shelter Box was able to respond to world events 18 times, sending a variety of essential shelter and aid items to 17 different countries.

10 of the countries we operated in were affected by natural disasters, in most of which Rotary clubs provided invaluable in-country assistance. ShelterBox serves as a wonderful example of the power of unity and strength of Rotary

Polio Certificate: Presented to Bob Doerr and in his name, 5 children will be given polio vaccine.
