President Phil called the meeting to order. The Rotary meeting on Wednesday, was particularly inspiring, engaging and informative.

The Invocation was delivered by Joe La Mariana, who referenced a number of inspirational thoughts his company had considered and ultimately adopted.

Jay Miller then introduced two Rotary Scholars currently attending CSM: Gizel Ortiz and Zane Allred.  Gizel related her experience being part of a family that are first-generation immigrants to America.  Gizel further discussed the rewards and challenges of being a student-athlete.

Zane is an architecture major at CSM. He gave a compelling presentation about the financial challenges of getting a college degree and how he is working his way through school.

Doug Person gave an update on ticket sales for the 100th Anniversary Gala.  Sales are moving along very well, but we are now in the final sprint to the finish for selling tickets and fast approaching a cut-off date.

Program:
Our featured speaker was Jody Gelb, a renowned actress and the author of what she terms a micro-memoir titled: “She May Be Lying Down But She May Be Very Happy.”
On stage, Jody has appeared in Wicked, The Who’s Tommy, Big River, Titanic and Wrong Number. Jody discussed one of the occupational hazards of acting: crippling stage fright, which she has (successfully) battled her entire career.

Jody’s personal journey was raising her late daughter Louisa, who had cerebral palsy.  In a local connection, Jody and her family moved to Burlingame so Louisa could attend the renowned Bridge School in Hillsborough.

In Jody’s telling, raising a child with a disability was akin to planning a trip to Italy - but landing in a completely different country.  It is an extraordinary story, and Rotary deeply appreciates Jody making the time and effort to speak to us.
