A Message From Incoming President Marc:

Dear Fellow Burlingame Rotarians,

This is the first of regular messages to that I plan to write you to update you on the activities of our club.  It is my honor to become the president of our club and to work with you to make our club one of the finest Rotary clubs in the Bay Area.

Let’s Review What Happened Last Week:

We “thanked” outgoing President Mike Horwitz or is it Horowitz with a hilarious debunking revolving around President Mike trying to sell our club’s number one profit maker, the Rotary Arms Motel.  Many thanks to all involved in the debunking including our debunking producer Mark Johnson, Chuck Voltz our emcee, Rabbi Jay Miller who gave the invocation, Jerry Winges with a newscast that was particularly difficult this debunking as apparently almost all pictures of Mike were burned prior to the debunking, Dennis Zell for another creative script and, of course, the cast of our production – Lage Andersen, Cheri Delacy Carr, John Delany, Cary Koh, Marilyn Orr and in a special appearance Father Michael Mahoney.

Next Meeting:

Next week (the fourth Wednesday) – we will be completing a community service project at the Boys and Girls Club of San Mateo from 3:00pm to 5:30pm.  The address is 200 N. Quebec Street in San Mateo.  You should have received a few emails on this event from our Community Service chair and czar of our fourth Wednesdays – Stan Moore.

We Have a Lot Planned for July:

July 4th – We will be dark, so you can enjoy Independence Day

July 11th – 12:15pm at Poplar Creek – my first official meeting where the speaker will be stand-up comedian Austin Carr

July 18th – 12:15pm at Poplar Creek, speaker will be John McKnight who will talk about the Salvation Army’s disaster services

July 25th – 5:00pm to 7:00pm social and happy hour with exchange visitors from our Edogawa sister club of Tokyo, Japan.  We will be joined by 5 students, 5 Rotarians and 1 teacher.  This is an opportunity for you to interact individually with our Rotarian guests in an informal environment.

Future Plans (The Three C's):

I am really looking forward to my presidency and will tell you more about the plans for our club at our July 11th and July 18th meetings.  I plan to build my year based on the following pillars (the three C’s):

  • Camaraderie and Membership
  • Community Service
  • Charitable Giving (focusing on Scholarships, Local Community, Student Exchanges and International)
If you have any ideas, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Rotary,
Marc
